Originally a Queen Anne-style heritage residence, Christie's Carriage House Pub was thoughtfully transformed into a vibrant hospitality destination through a carefully planned renovation and addition. The project preserved the building's distinctive architectural character while adapting it for modern restaurant and pub operations, creating a unique destination that celebrates Victoria's historic streetscape.
The design seamlessly integrates new construction with the original structure, adding expanded dining areas, outdoor gathering spaces, and three attached townhomes that complement the historic architecture. Traditional detailing, steep rooflines, wraparound porches, and decorative woodwork were carefully maintained and echoed throughout the addition, allowing old and new architecture to coexist naturally.
Completed while with Tom Stark Architect, the project reflects Lex George's early experience in heritage preservation, adaptive reuse, and mixed-use development—demonstrating how historic buildings can be revitalized while preserving their architectural identity and community significance.
